Oakley Sunglasses: The New Oakley Holbrooks

Posted: July 3, 2010 at 5:04 pm No Comment

Oakley have always made a habit of collaborating with the top athletes on the planet, helping them bettern understand what athletes and sports people need from their eyewear. Shaun White, world famous snowboarder and as close to a sporting legend as you’ll get in the winter sports world, has been with Oakley for the last decade and has now helped design the newest pair of Oakley sunglasses; the Oakley Holbrook.

In helping out with Oakley’s latest sport-orientated designer sunglasses, Shaun White wanted to draw on things he’d seen as cool in the 50′s and 60′s and place this essence of US cool into the sunglasses. That’s perhaps an explanation as to why these undeniably cool sunglasses do look a little reminiscent of the classic Ray Ban Wayfarer, but i love those Ray Ban’s, so i for one won’t be complaining. In fact that puts the new Oakley’s right in the forefront of current fashion and adds the vintage look which is so central to this season’s trends.

The Holbrook name comes from a tiny town on Route 66 in America, a town that perfectly personifies the mixutre of glory and guts that makes up the American Dream (according to Oakley and White).

In design terms, the Holbrooks achieve their great vintage look with large, defined lenses and chunky, thick frames. These sunglasses are an extremely good example of Oakley design; vintage and in-style yet still featuring Oakley’s innovative technology, making them as high-performance as any other pair of Oakley sunglasses.

This pair of Oakleys are a superb indicator as to why the company is so keen to work with top athletes on their design and technology implementation. Oakley have quickly become one of the biggest eyewear brands on the planet and it’s not hard to see why when you see them collaborating with the likes of Shaun White. The new Oakley Holbrook’s are a perfect choice for anyone taking to the slopes this year, or anyone just wanting to look good on the high-street this summer.
